Online Learning Design Project for Voyager Sopris Learning

Voyager Sopris Learning (VSL) has been delivering the successful and impactful Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS) literacy professional development to teachers for 20 years. This spring, VSL embarked on a project to revise the LETRS content, delivery platform and implementation models in order to offer a more scalable blended solution.This new learning platform will also be leveraged across other Voyager Sopris Learning products.

Open Classroom Consulting is currently working with the VSL Product Development team and the LETRS advisory group to develop an experience design for the new online training, including a community and engagement strategy. We also facilitated a series of face-to-face meetings with the authors of the LETRS curriculum to generate mock-ups and a content roadmap for each of the 64 online course sessions. These community and engagement strategies will be the foundation of future VSL professional development products.

Usability and Experience Design Project for

Usability and Experience Design Project for is a national non-profit organization dedicated to proving the power of experiential learning through entrepreneurship, and igniting the potential of youth in under-resourced communities. The BUILD Entrepreneurship Curriculum is currently being taught in 9th and 10th grade classrooms across the United States. 

In the spring of 2016, the BUILD National Program Team was interested in fine-tuning their curriculum resources to make them more approachable and usable for partner teachers. Melissa Jones worked with the staff to design a new layout and template for the curriculum. Melissa conducted user research to understand the needs of BUILD partner educators. Based on her learning, Melissa created a new template and delivery mechanism for the organization's lesson plans.
